Digital logistics update

WebcargonetHONG KONG: August 31, 2016. Freightos, the online marketplace, has expanded its ocean and truck rate database with the purchase of air cargo rate provider WebCargoNet.

With over 200 million pricing data points from the combined companies, Freightos says the data convergence will make it simpler and faster for carriers and forwarders to sell their services and for importers and exporters to buy them.

Freightos CEO Zvi Schreiber said: "Joining Freightos brings WebCargoNet instant scale and the capacity to rapidly advance the technologies we are bringing to market. Hundreds of global forwarders and dozens of air carriers are sure to benefit as together we continue to make freight quoting and booking online a reality"


ShipXpressCHICAGO, August 31, 2016. GE Transportation (GET) has acquired ShipXpress, a provider of cloud-based software that enables rail, industrial and commodity businesses to operate with supply chain partners.

GET says the deal expands its offerings for shippers and the provision of information and transaction services to rail customers.

"By combining ShipXpress' innovative software products with GE's sensing technology and industrial-strength platform Predix, we'll deliver the industry's most advanced, scalable cloud-based solution to accelerate the movement of goods and information, and enhance supply chain performance and customer service," said GET president and CEO Jamie Miller.

"Our combined capabilities will help short-line railroads better analyze their rail operations, car accounting and supply chain information," he added.

ShipXpress delivers customized supply chain solutions to
North American railroads plus Fortune 500 companies in the energy, agriculture, chemicals, and metal industry sectors.


gKNiSCHINDELLEGI, Switzerland: August 30, 2016. Kuehne + Nagel has launched 'gKNi', a digital service based on logistics data and predictive analytics.

'gKNi', or 'global Kuehne + Nagel indicators', provides estimates for key economic figures - including trade balance and industrial production - based on company insights. It is a complement to KN FreightNet, a digital product providing instant quotation, online booking as well as track & trace for air and sea.

The subscription-based product is an initiative of the company's venture platform utilizing in-house developed technology to combine big data with data mining, automization and predictive analytics.

Kuehne + Nagel group CEO Detlef Trefzger commented: "Using our core competence and scaling-up our digital mind set, especially in the area of data management and analytics, we develop pioneering products that bring additional value to our customers.
