FORT WORTH, TX: May 26, 2016. American Airlines Cargo has appointed the HAE Group as its first general sales agent in Africa covering a number of countries in central, east and north, as well as South Africa.

HAE Group represents American Cargo in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Ghana, Gabon, Nigeria, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and South Africa. The outbound market from Africa splits roughly 50/50 between perishable and general cargo and the airline said it will be looking at both inbound and outbound traffic.

“We believe there is considerable potential for shipments to and from Africa,” said Richard Hartmann, American Airlines Cargo’s regional sales manager. “While we may be an offline carrier to the continent, we have identified a number of markets which have regular business to and from destinations across our global network and they can be best served by us having our own sales representation on the ground.”

Hartmann said automotive parts, mining, clothing and other commodities will be exported from Africa to Chicago, New York, Dallas and Atlanta.
“While the majority of traffic will initially route over London Heathrow, the strength of our international network means that we will look to creatively exploit other options as we move forward and grow the business.”

HAE was founded in 1997 at East Midlands Airport in the UK.

B&H opens Sydney facility

SYDNEY: May 26, 2016. Specialist logistics provider B&H Worldwide has opened a new climate-controlled storage facility at Sydney airport.

B&H provides airside collection and delivery, unserviceable parts processing, repair management, brakes and wheels management and aviation tire storage and distribution.

“Having access to climate controlled storage so close to the airport is becoming an increasingly important feature for many of our customers”, noted regional director Steve Moralee.  “We are now able to provide the reassurance that their climate sensitive components will retain their quality and integrity and can be called upon for urgent delivery without the time and cost impositions previously experienced.

The new facility can cater for a variety of aviation related shipments from gels and adhesives through to avionics components.

marine harvestMore shippers join TIACA

MIAMI: May 25, 2016. Representatives from Chanel Fragrances and Beauté, Ericsson, and Sandvik Machining Solutions have joined the Tosoh Corporation as new members of TIACA’s Shipper Advisory Committee.

Marine Harvest RMT (right) and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries are also now members. TIACA said it would be adding representatives from the automotive and flower sectors soon.

The new council complements existing shipper organizations by expanding the opportunity to include all sectors of the global air cargo community, according to Doug Brittin, TIACA secretary general.

“TIACA represents all sections of the industry and we feel it is very important to provide this platform specifically for shippers to bring their concerns to the discussion table,” added Sanjiv Edward, TIACA chairman and head of Cargo Business, Delhi International Airport.

Middle East first for DB Schenker

ESSEN/DUBAI: May 26, 2016. DB Schenker has begun operating its first owned facility in the Middle East.

The 7,200 sq.mt. facility in the Dubai Logistics City is expected to grow to 25,000 sq.mt. by 2019.

“Dubai is our main hub in the region, and investing in the DLC was a strategic step to strengthen our network and to complete the DB Schenker service coverage in UAE. Being located only a few meters away from the runways of Al Maktoum airport and Emirates Road and only 15 minutes away from the Seaport enables us to offer first class integrated transportation and warehousing solutions for our global customers,” said Ako Djaf, DB Schenker, Regional Head of Contract Logistics / SCM, Region Near Middle East/Africa.

With the capacity to process 12 million tons of air cargo by 2023, Dubai Logistics City is located near to the world’s largest airport and adjacent to one of the world’s largest container handlers, Jebel Ali Port.
