DUBAI, July 14, 2016: Gerry’s dnata, the largest ground handler in Pakistan, has signed a multi-year agreement with Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) to provide ground handling services for the airline at Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad.

Saudia operates 41 flights a week between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan with a mix of B777/757/747 and A300/330 equipment.

Gerry dnata“There is a very strong, historic bond between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, and it is one of our busiest destinations for outbound travel from Pakistan,” said Gary Chapman, dnata president. “We have invested heavily in facilities people, process innovation and technology across Pakistan, and I’m confident our team will provide Saudia the highest level of service and quality we are known for."

Saleh bin Nasser Al Jasser, Saudia director general added: “In line with our transformation efforts towards 2020, we have selected Gerry’s dnata to provide full ground handling services for Saudia across our strategically important Pakistan market. Saudia has long been associated with dnata as a provider of high quality ground handling services and we are very pleased to extend our strong partnership to include Gerry’s dnata in Pakistan.”

The dnata contract coincides with the results of a June 2016 IATA CFO/ Cargo executive survey that suggests airlines will add more staff over the next 12 months as a result of growth in both passenger and cargo markets.

Despite the rally in oil prices since the start of 2016, the majority of survey respondents expect operating costs to fall further or to remain unchanged over the next 12 months, following the partial recovery by most currencies against the U.S. dollar – with the notable exception of Sterling.

However continued strong competition in the passenger market will see yields fall slightly more than input costs ,while increases in freight capacity will "continue to weigh heavily on freight yields over the year ahead," said IATA.
