ASTANA/COPENHAGEN: February 28, 2017. Kazakhstan logistics company Temir Zholy Express (KTZE) is to introduce a fleet of intermodal reefer containers incorporating smart technology supplied by Globe Tracker International (GT) on a rail route linking ChongQing, China and Duisburg, Germany.

Reefer manufacturer UNIT45 has partnered with GT to combine data from the refrigeration unit with data collected from wireless sensors to report condition and security variables from both inside and outside the container.

KTZ Express 1000th block trainThe system includes a communications unit with satellite option, a reefer controller interface device, and multiple sub-gigahertz antennas and wireless sensors both inside and outside the container.

As a result owners can continuously monitor and set the box reefer's operating parameters anywhere from anywhere.

"The technology deployed for KTZE's solution is very robust, state of the art, with two-way communication to the reefer controller and multiple wireless sensors all customized to their specifications," said GT CEO Jakup Lamhauge. "The system is built to handle the harsh winter environments in Kazakhstan and Russia where temperatures often fall below -40 degrees centigrade," he added.

GT said the combination of its technology and a rail route transit "approaching 13 days" between China and Europe is attracting attention from traditional ocean and airfreight shippers.

The company is a privately held provider of sensor-based tracking, monitoring, and supply chain analytics for cold chain, security and visibility.

"We have worked hard with Globe Tracker and UNIT45 to develop this unique system for our valued customers and we couldn't be happier with the results," noted Daulet Kakim, KTZE Container Transport Department director.

In addition to operating its own fleet of reefer containers and cargo vessels, KTZE is the dry port operator and manager of the 'Khorgos - Eastern Gate' Special Economic Zone on Kazakhstan's border with China.
