BRUSSELS: December 08, 2016. The European Commission (EC) has removed all Kazakhstan air carriers from its latest EU Air Safety List and added Iran Aseman Airlines due to what it described as "unaddressed deficiencies".

The list includes 193 airlines banned or restricted from operating in European Union skies because they do not meet international safety standards.

"The EU Air Safety list is one of our main instruments to continuously offer the highest level of air safety to Europeans. I am particularly glad that after years of work and European technical assistance, we are today able to clear all Kazakh air carriers," said EU commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc.

Aseman Airlines"This also is a positive signal for all the countries that remain on the list. It shows that work and cooperation pay off. The Commission and the European Aviation Safety Agency are ready to assist," she added.

Following today's update, a total of 190 airlines certified in 18 countries are banned due to what the EC said is a lack of safety oversight by their aviation authorities.

They include: Afghanistan, Angola (with the exception of one airline which operates under restrictions and conditions), Benin, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gabon (with the exception of two airlines which operate under restrictions and conditions), Indonesia (with the exception of seven airlines), the Kyrgyz Republic, Liberia, Libya, Mozambique, Nepal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone and Sudan.

In addition to Iran Aseman Airlines, the EC has also banned Iraqi Airways and Blue Wing Airlines (Suriname) due to safety concerns.

Six more airlines remain subject to operational restrictions and can only fly to the EU with specific aircraft types. They are: Afrijet and Nouvelle Air Affaires SN2AG (Gabon), Air Koryo (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), Air Service Comores (the Comoros), Iran Air (Iran) and TAAG Angola Airlines (Angola).
