AA AucklandFORT WORTH, TX: June 23, 2016. American Airlines has launched a daily nonstop service between Los Angeles and Auckland with a B787-8.

American Airlines Cargo said the new destination is part of the company’s commitment to expanding operations in the Pacific and further strengthens the airline's joint business with Qantas Airways. American has added six new trans-Pacific routes over the last three years.

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce (right of picture with New Zealand prime minister John Key center and American Airlines president Doug Parker) said the new service is supported by Jetstar's domestic connections to 11 destinations within New Zealand and Qantas Group's nearly 40 daily flights to Australia.

“Our teams at LAX and in the Pacific have been especially excited for the launch of the new B787 service to New Zealand,” added Joe Goode, American Airlines Cargo managing director, Cargo Sales – West. “We look forward to a strong demand on the cargo front between AKL and LAX, and anticipate additional demand beyond New Zealand into Australia using our interline partners,” he added.

Cargo on the inaugural flight out of LAX included a variety of perishables and other consolidated freight with medical supplies and mining machinery on the first return flight.

GSA Cargo Service is AA Cargo’s Auckland sales agent and Menzies Aviation is the ground handler for the carrier.
