Fuel a more sustainable future

TRIESTETRIESTE: December 12, 2016. Ekol Logistics has acquired 65 percent of Trieste port operator Europa Multipurpose Terminals (EMT) for an undisclosed sum.

EMT was established by the Francesco Parisi Group in 2010 and has operated Trieste's Pier VI under a 25 year concession since 2012 for RoRo ferries operating between Trieste, Lavrio (Greece) and Istanbul, and intermodal trains to Cologne, Luwigshafen and Munich, Germany; Bettembourg, Luxembourg; and Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Ekol says the port will now add links to Israel and Egypt to raise annual throughput from a current 110,000 RoRo units and 70,000 train movements to 140,000 and 100,000 respectively next year.

"The Port of Trieste enjoys a vital location for our intermodal transportation solution," said Ekol Logistics chairman Ahmet Musul. "We solidified our position here by acquiring the majority of Europa Multipurpose Terminals, the company we received services from up until now. We are sure to make a leap by proceeding with a such a seasoned team in port operations," he continued.

Francesco Parisi added: "The Port Authority of Trieste joins the old and new shareholders of EMT in welcoming this new development which consolidates the position of the port of Trieste as the leading port on the North shore of the Mediterranean."
