Fuel a more sustainable future

ROTTERDAM: January 23, 2017: TX Logistik (TXL), a subsidiary of Trenitalia, part of Italian State Railways, is to increase its Rotterdam-Bayern Express service from the Netherlands to Southern Germany to six departures a week in both directions.

TX Logistik Rotterdam-Bayern-ExpressThe train connects the Maasvlakte and Maashaven/Waalhaven Rotterdam container terminals with the Tricon Container Terminal in Nuremberg and the inland terminal München Riem in Munich.

According to TXL the rail link saves time for shippers: rather than waiting to be unloaded at a North German port, containers discharged at European Gateway Services' (EGS) two container terminals at the Maasvlakte can be delivered in Southern Germany or north-west Austria within three days.

In the other direction, export cargo from Southern Germany can be loaded on the train late enough to make a box ship departure from Rotterdam in two days.

TXL Maritime division director Wolfgang Debusmann commented: "With this sixth train, we are increasing our capacity by more than 15 percent [and] given the growing demand, this is absolutely necessary."

Mark van Andel, EGS director added: "The Rotterdam-Bayern Express constitutes a fully-fledged alternative for the traditional route from and to Bayern via the North German ports."

TXL was established in 1999 as a private railway operator throughout Europe. Annual turnover in 2014 was in excess of €250 million. EGS is a subsidiary of Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam.
