TRIESTE: January 25, 2017. Ekol Logistics has begun a new block train operation between Trieste and Kiel provided by Italian Railways subsidiary TK Logistik. Ekol is majority owner of the EMT Terminal in Trieste.

Ekol train to SwedenThe new intermodal offering follows the launch of its weekly service at the end of 2016 linking the port of Sète near Montpellier to Noisy-le-Sec, Paris.

Ekol said the simultaneous launch of Stena Line's service between Kiel and Gothenburg would enable the first train connection from Trieste to the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor – a distance of nearly 1,800 kilometers.

Alaa Jennane, Ekol director of Engineering Business Development said his company was providing a new intermodal bridge linking Scandinavia, North Germany, Russia and the Baltic with South Europe, Turkey and Iran.

"We are sure that this new innovative solution will be appreciated as it will be the best direct service that will open new economic business opportunities for those regions," he declared.

The train, composed of 16 double Pocket wagons suitable for 32 45 ft. Intermodal Units, will depart Trieste every Wednesday at 11:00 AM and arrive in Kiel at 16:00 the next day – with a return every Sunday at 13:00 for an arrival in Trieste at 17.00 on the Monday.

Wilfried Klein, Ekol project development manager said the train service would enable two-day deliveries from Trieste to Gothenburg.
