Fuel a more sustainable future

RIYADH: February 14, 2017. The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) is to provide global logistics support to the Saudi Rail Company (SAR) including Customs clearance services from Bahri Logistics, one of its six business units.

The contract was signed by SAR CFO Khalid bin Abdulrahman Obanme and Ahmed Mohammed Al-Ghaith, head of Bahri Logistics.

Bahri RoRoBahri will supply SAR with transport and shipping services plus shipment track and trace throughout the rail company's supply chain including port handling and warehouse management from country of origin to final delstination.

"We are pleased to sign this contract with SAR, one of the leading national companies dedicated to continuously enhancing its services," said Mohammed Al-Ghaith. "The contract also falls in line with Saudi Arabia's 2030 Vision, as Bahri is constantly working to strengthen and expand its services to further reinforce the transportation sector in the Kingdom and play an important role in the diversification of the national economy," he added.

Bahri Logistics was established in 1978 and operates six multipurpose vessels (right) between the Gulf, Indian Subcontinent, Red Sea, Mediterranean and the North American East Coast. The ships specialize in general, project and several types of RoRo cargoes and are equipped with heavy lift cranes with a DWT of 26,000 tons.

The company also manages a container service facility at Jeddah Islamic Port in Saudi Arabia and has invested in a new IT system to integrate, ports, agents and offices that will be made available to SAR.

Bahri reported a net profit of US$470 million on revenue of US$1.8 billion in 2016.
