Fuel a more sustainable future

DUBAI: March 05, 2017. Universal Express, the Dubai-based wholesale courier, has appointed former FedEx veteran Brian Britnor as its new CEO as part of an expansion plan for its offices in Dubai, Nairobi and Singapore.

Brian Britnor CEO Universal ExpressBritnor (right) spent 23 years with FedEx focusing on B2B, B2C sales and sales management throughout the region. In 2004 he was appointed regional manager, Global Service Participants & Airline Sales covering the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.

"I've known and worked with Universal Express in my previous role ever since I arrived in Dubai in 1990," said Britnor. "When their chairman shared with me their plans to move aggressively into eCommerce yet maintain their core express activities and offered me the position, I didn't hesitate."

Since joining Universal, the company has relocated to a much larger facility at the Dubai Airport Free Zone complete with a fully racked, temperature-controlled warehouse. More sales and operations staff have been employed in Nairobi, and Britnor is looking to expand in Singapore as well as add more offices to the wholesaling network.

"After over 30 years of primarily handling line haul and express business into the Gulf from retail couriers overseas, the move into eCommerce has meant a steep learning curve for us all, and indeed for everyone in the industry," he explained.

"New software and Apps, more flexible pricing, faster turnarounds, COD shipments, handling returns – eCommerce continues to evolve and only the most agile and dedicated will survive," he added.

Still the only independent wholesale express company in the Middle East after 25 years, Universal supports couriers and freight forwarders with door-to-door delivery of documents and parcels to over 220 countries, many of them on a same day or next-day basis.
