ISTANBUL: April 10, 2017. Coincident with its move to larger offices in Hong Kong, Turkish Cargo has been recognizing its customers in the autonomous territory as well as in Guangzhou, Mumbai, Colombo and the Maldives.
Speaking to over 80 agents at the opening of its new offices, Turkish Airlines chief cargo officer Turhan Özen said: "As a new team member in Cargo, I found here in Hong Kong a strong team and strong supporters. We believe our current cooperation with our business partners will get stronger in 2017 with our increasing quality and capacity."
Starting with its first passenger flight to Guangzhou in January 2011, Turkish Cargo is now supporting the market with daily B777 passenger aircraft plus three weekly freighters that will increase to four flights next month.
During an event hosted by Özen and Cargo vice president Halit Anlatan, the airline recognized several forwarders for their support last year including Goldjet International Logistics, AIR Sea Transport, DHL Global Forwarding China, Panda Global Beijing, Guangzhou Hayonez Hyl Logistics, UBI Logistics China, DM Sky Cargo International and PIF Global Logistics China.
In Colombo, Sri Lanka the company's most productive agents received awards at a dinner hosted by Turkish Cargo president Şeref Kazancı for 100 of the country's leading forwarders plus Turkey's ambassador to Sri Lanka Tunca Özçuhadar, who declared: "Airfreight facilitates trade by contributing to global economic development and allowing millions of business opportunities to emerge.
"The ability of airlines in the global economy to offer high-quality products at competitive prices to consumers around the world is becoming more important. For this reason, Turkish Cargo strengthens its position as one of the world's fastest growing air cargo carriers," he added.
Between 2011 and 2017, Turkish Cargo increased its Asia destinations from four to 20. Last year the airline launched freighter services to Hyderabad, Chennai, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, and Colombo.
This year the airline said it would offer more widebody bellyhold capacity on passenger flights to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Islamabad, Karachi and Lahor, while expanding all-cargo capacity to Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shanghai.
Recognizing its achievements, Seoul Incheon Airport gave Turkish Cargo its '2016 Fastest Growing Airline' award recently following a 27 percent increase in traffic last year. The airline flies 13 frequencies a week to South Korea including two freighter services.
