Fuel a more sustainable future

DUBAI, UAE: April 24, 2017. Qatar Airways is to begin service to San Francisco and Las Vegas next year. Other additions to its network in 2018 will include Cardiff, Utapao, Thailand; Chittagong, Mykonos, Málaga, Accra, Lisbon, Abidjan, Prague, Kiev, and Mombasa.

Qatar Airways B787The airline will also introduce a fourth freighter flight to Basel from Qatar next month. The new frequency brings its A330 freighter 'Pharma Express' flights to 10 each week linking Brussels, Basel, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad with the world's pharma trade lanes.

Qatar chief officer Cargo Ulrich Ogiermann commented: "By increasing capacity from Basel, the hub of the Swiss pharmaceutical industry, we are able to provide increased uplift to our customers as well as a seamless cool-chain for pharmaceutical exports out of Basel through our GDP-compliant hub in Doha."

The airline said it had seen "a rapid rise" in its pharma traffic with a 39 percent year-on-year increase in temperature-controlled shipments in 2016-17 and recently added Sao Paulo to its pharma network following the delivery of a 12th B777 freighter.

Thailand, one of Qatar Airways' earliest destinations in the Far East, will get a fifth daily non-stop service from Doha to Bangkok from June 01 this year with a B787. Coupled with double-daily flights to Phuket and four services a week to Krabi, the airline now provides 53 flights a week to the country.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker noted: "Boosting our Bangkok flight frequency to five daily flights is a significant commitment from us to the Thai market and testament to the strong year-round demand on this iconic Far East route."
