ISTANBUL: May 03, 2017. Turkish Cargo has begun a A310 freighter service between Izmir and Tel Aviv for same-day delivery of fresh fish exports from the Aegean region.

The new Saturday service follows a meeting in late April between the airline and members of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) in Istanbul.

Turkish Cargo A310FTurkish Cargo chief commercial officer Turhan Özen explained the airline had decided to organize a workshop for Turkey's fresh food exporters following a recent meeting in Berlin: "Our aim is to be able to met the expectations of our exporters as much as possible; planning our capability optimally; proceeding our preparations at maximum level to that end, and being capable of answering our exporters' needs faster at the beginning of the new season."

Rıza Seyyar, TIM Board member and chairman of the Aegean Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Exporters Union, said his members wanted to know how they could better deliver perishables to major world markets: "Our aim is not only personal or sectoral but getting [answers to] how we can transfer exported goods and products faster to the world metropolises in a day or within a several days time period; how can we make that goods and products more valuable; [and] how can we add value to our national economy."

Turkish Cargo Sales and Marketing vice president Halit Anlatan responded with an overview of the demand for perishables worldwide and how the airline can support Turkish export markets with current frequencies and capacity, as well as possible services to new destinations with the  acquisition of new freighter aircraft.

In addition to Seyyar, workshop attendees included Latif Unal, chairman of the Istanbul Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Exporters Union; Melisa Tokgöz Mutlu, chairman of the Fruit and Vegetable Sectoral Council; and Sinan Kızıltan, chairman of the Aegean Seafood and Animal Product Exporters Union.
