Fuel a more sustainable future

KULA LUMPUR: June 06, 2017. MASkargo has begun a five times weekly A330 freighter service between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KIA), Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

In addition to general cargo, the company said the new service is designed to cater to the growing e-commerce and courier business between East and West Malaysia.

2 MAS A330F"As the Asian cross-border eCommerce is booming, MASkargo is poised to tap into this market given the world class warehouse facilities we operate and our vast belly and freighter network," said MASkargo CEO Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi. "This express freighter service to East Malaysia is timely as we intend to position KLIA to be a major e-commerce hub in the region," he added.

In March Malaysia prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the introduction of a Digital Free Trade Zone with support from Alibaba.

The eCommerce enabler is partnering with the state-run Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to host what Alibaba executive chairman Jack Ma describes as an Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP).

He said Malaysia had been looking for ways to position itself as a fulfillment and logistics center, expand its Internet economy and attract foreign investment.

"Alibaba Group is at the forefront of private-sector development of e-commerce solutions, and their ambitions to enable trade, particularly for SMEs, make them the perfect partner in this new initiative," Najib said. "This is an exciting development for the country, and to be an early participant in eWTP will provide a plethora of opportunities for Malaysian organizations."

In addition to Alibaba and its Cainiao Network, other partners  in the eWTP project include Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAH), Ant Financial and the Malaysian banks CIMB and Maybank.

Alibaba and Malaysia expect to extend their partnership to include logistics, cloud computing and online finance with Cainiao working with MAH to set up an e-commerce and logistics hub at KIA.

MASkargo said the new service to East Malaysia leaves early in the morning from KIA, allowing arrival shipments to be processed before noon.
