BRUSSELS: July 23, 2017. A new Customs Export app is proving popular among the BRUcargo forwarding community at Brussels Airport following a launch at the beginning of July.

According to BRUcargo (right) over 25 companies, responsible for 90 percent of its 650,000 tons of annual cargo traffic, have confirmed they will roll out the app in the next few weeks.

BRUcargo Brussels AirportThe application, part of the BRUcloud open community platform, combines manifest information with newly-added forwarder data to provide a complete filing report to Customs.

"This collaboratively created app results in a lower administrative burden for all the parties. Digitization within BRUcargo will further lower the chances of errors and will help to drastically decrease lead times," commented Bart Vleugels, Advisory General at Federal Public Service of Finance, Customs and Excise Duties for Belgium.

The initiative came from the Customs working group of Air Cargo Belgium and enables forwarders to benefit from priority Customs clearance while avoiding waiting in line to get a Customs stamp on an airwaybill.

"It is the first result whereby information from different sources can be linked to one new solution, without much effort, but with great impact on the day-to-day operation of the companies participating," said Steven Polmans, head of Cargo and Logistics at Brussels Airport Company. "This is one of the several benefits we aimed for when developing our community platform," he added.

The app is based on Nallian data-sharing technology that connects supply chain business partners in the cloud to enable real-time data sharing and interactive collaboration.

"This app is a win for both the Customs authorities and the forwarders. A fine example of the fruitful cooperation between the stakeholders at BRUcargo," declared BDP International, one of six companies already using the app daily. "It was great to see the collaborative approach in the community resulted in an application that addressed the urgent needs of the entire forwarding community," the company noted.
