China Southern and AFKLMPGUANGZHOU/AMSTERDAM: October 12, 2017. China Southern Cargo and Air France KLM Martinair Cargo have taken the first step towards a joint venture with the signing of an MoU "focused on strategic cooperation between the two parties".

Two years ago the airlines signed a cargo agreement offering customers a combination of wide-body and main-deck capacity between Europe and China and mutual access to the airlines' respective networks through interlining SPA (Special Prorate Agreements).

Commenting on the new agreement, senior vice president China Southern Cargo Zhao Fengsheng said: "Signing of this MoU leads to a new phase of cooperation between us, we anticipate concrete result coming out of this."

Over the next four years the two sides say they want to build on their existing experience in SkyTeam; expand Mail and Express business via greater shared capacity between Asia and Europe, Africa and Transatlantic markets; combine belly and main deck freight products to offer high frequency services from Guangzhou, Shanghai, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol; and explore the possibility of "one roof" handling at home base hubs.

Executive vice president of AFKLMP Cargo Marcel de Nooijer added: "We continuously want to create more value to our customers, and in doing so we are very excited to deepen the cooperation with our strategic partner China Southern Cargo. This new phase is good news for our customers."
