DP World Domincan RepublicDUBAI: October 12, 2017. DP World is planning to expand its US$400 million Caucedo port operations in the Dominican Republic with a new 400-meter berth and associated facilities.

The Caucedo Logistics Centre is a joint venture between DP World and the Caucedo Development Corporation to provide regional distribution facilities for foreign and Dominican businesses.

After a meeting with Dominican Republic president Danilo Medina, DP World chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem noted: "The Dominican Republic has tremendous potential as a logistics hub and we're pleased to be working in partnership with the local government to maximize on these opportunities.

"Adding another berth at DP World Caucedo ensures we remain competitive and can serve the growing demand for our services in the region. We're also working on expanding the logistics park in Caucedo to attract new businesses and creating an ideal platform for the Dominican Republic to develop into a major hub for trade globally," he continued.

DP World Caucedo is 30 minutes from the country's capital Santo Domingo and close to the international airport, FTZ and and logistics parks.

Trade between Dubai and the Dominican Republic for the first half of 2017 was a reported AED48.6 million.
