LONDON/PARIS: November 28, 2017. UK online grocery retailer Ocado Group is to provide its proprietary eCommerce technology to French bricks and mortar supermarket Groupe Casino.

With close to 13,000 stores worldwide and net sales of €36 billion in 2106, Groupe Casino will use Ocado's Smart Platform (OSP) to combine a new automated warehouse with front-end web site functionality, last-mile routing management and big data, real time implementation.

CASINO OCADOThe agreement includes the development of a Customer Fulfillment Centre (CSC) using the British company's robotic handling technology to serve the Greater Paris area, the Normandie and Hauts de France Regions.

With the build and launch expected to take at least two years, Groupe Casino said it would pay Ocado for its front-end investment as well as ongoing fees based on utilization.

"This agreement is a major leap in terms of quality: 50,000 food items will be offered in the first stage to customers in the Greater Paris area with precise and speedy delivery at home and through a platform which makes it achievable to do this profitably," said Groupe Casino CEO Jean-Charles Naouri.

Based on the success of the first roll-out, both companies will consider additional CFCs close to other large urban areas of France.

Ocado launched its third party eCommerce platform for William Morrison supermarkets in the UK by providing warehouse operations for the single pick of products together with the entire end-to-end proprietary software required to operate an online grocery business - from user interfaces, through warehouse operating and control systems, to logistics, route planning and optimization.
