CMA CGM biggestMARSEILLE, January 26, 2018. CMA CGM has taken delivery of the world's largest French-flagged containership – the 20,600 TEU Antoine de Saint Exupery, named after the famed French author, poet and pioneer of the country's postal air service.

The vessel will begin operating in the Ocean Alliance 'FAL 1' service linking six points in China with Northern Europe via Port Kelang or Singapore on February 06.

The ship incorporates a Becker Twisted Fin for a four percent reduction in CO2 emissions; a new-generation engine that reduces fuel consumption by 25 percent for a further three percent CO2 reduction, and a ballast treatment using filters and UV lamps to return water to the sea free of any living organism.

Built by Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction – Philippines (HHIC-Phil), the newbuild is the first of three Ultra Large Container ships (ULCS) to be delivered by HHIC-Phil to CMA CGM following the signing of a contract in April 2015.

Hanjin has invested US$2.3 billion in Philippines shipbuilding and has produced 113 merchant ships valued at over US$6 billion since a first delivery in 2009.
