Fuel a more sustainable future

DONINGTON FLPORT CANAVERAL, FL: March 26, 2018. A second post-Panamax car carrier has delivered 460 vehicles to the Central Florida port this week following the discharge of 315 cars from Mexico earlier this year by a similar vessel.

The Hoegh Autoliners’ MV Donington Ro/Ro vessel, with a capacity for 7,400 vehicles, made its inaugural call at the AutoPort Canaveral facility after delivering vehicles to Port Freeport, Texas last week.

“The arrival of the MV Donington underscores the important role Port Canaveral plays in supporting the economic growth in the Central Florida region,” said Port CEO John Murray. ”The improvements we’ve made to berth infrastructure, our channel and turning basin have enhanced our ability to handle increased cargo volumes coming into the region,” he added.

Port Canaveral recently completed a six-month deepening project of its West Turning Basin to provide deeper draft vessels access to the port channel depth of 44 feet.

In January MOL’s Brooklands, became the largest Post-Panamax vessel to call at the port following transit through the expanded locks of the Panama Canal.

“The megaship era in global shipping has arrived at Port Canaveral,” declared Murray at the time.
