Fuel a more sustainable future

BAHRAIN: April 10, 2018. The Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) says it handled 10 cargo flights and 1,000 tons of race peripherals in preparation for the Formula One/Gulf Air 2018 Grand Prix held last week at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).

Bahrain Airport CompanyThe race was eventually won by Sebastian Vettel in a Ferrari with Valtteri Bottas driving a Mercedes in second place followed by Lewis Hamilton also in a Mercedes and Pierre Gasly driving a Scuderia Toro Rosso Honda.

The airport said preparations to handle a large influx of visitors, the race teams and 1,000 tonnes of cars, spare parts, computer equipment, tools, as well as thousands of liters of fuel and oil, were coordinated by representatives from BIC, Immigration and Passport Control, Customs Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, Gulf Air and Bahrain Airport Services.

“This marks another successful chapter in our Kingdom’s history of hosting the Formula One, and yet another triumph for BIC, which has succeeded every year in organizing this important international event that has placed the Kingdom of Bahrain on the map of worldwide sports organizers,“ said BAC chief Airport Operations Officer Michael Hohenberger.

“Having successfully hosted this race annually over the past 14 years proves the capabilities of young and ambitions Bahrainis in organizing the biggest international sports events, and credit goes to all the officials at BIC for presenting this race at such an esteemed level,” he added.

During the event BAC said it met with Air India to discuss cooperation with the airport and also met with senior representatives from Jolly Chic, a China-based e-commerce company.
