Fuel a more sustainable future

ATLANTA: April 12, 2018. Delta Air Lines has reported a 10 percent rise in operating revenue to US$9.96 billion for the first quarter of 2018. Cargo revenue rose 23.4 percent year-on-year to reach US$202 million. Corporate net income fell 2.0 percent to US$547 million.

Delta Habitat for HumanityNoting the result was a March quarter record for the company, airline CEO Ed Bastian commented: “The Delta people delivered a strong March quarter, and our record revenue was a direct result of the great service and operational reliability they provided for our customers. It’s an honor to recognize their hard work with US$183 million toward our 2018 profit sharing.”

During the quarter Delta returned US$542 million to shareholders and made a US$500 million contribution to its employee pension plan.

As part of a fleet replacement program, Delta added 43 more B737-900s and Airbus A321s to its network and received final approval from regulatory authorities for a new joint venture partnership with Korean Air.

Company employees also worked with China Eastern staff (right) to help construct six homes in Sancun, a village 85 miles north of Guangzhou, on behalf of Habitat for Humanity, a global nonprofit organization that helps families build or improve a home.

In 2015, Delta invested US$450 million for a 3.55 percent stake in China Eastern and is now expanding its codeshare agreement to reach over 50 domestic Chinese cities.

Delta volunteers have built or rehabilitated 259 homes in 10 countries since its partnership with Habitat for Humanity began in 1995.
