Fuel a more sustainable future

BONN: May 03, 2018. DHL Global Forwarding has launched a second round-the-world service with another ACMI-leased Atlas Air B747-400 freighter routing from Shanghai Pudong to Cincinnati, Incheon, Wuxi (China) Frankfurt-Hahn and back to Shanghai.

Combined with its first service begun last September, DHL is now offering twice weekly B747 freighter departures from Wuxi to Frankfurt-Hahn as a result of strong demand for outbound services from Asia.

DHL China transhipment“Demand is currently exceeding supply mainly due to the large economies performing strongly,” said DHL Global Forwarding CEO Tim Scharwath. “On major trade lanes volumes are high but capacities are low – a trend that will continue. To increase our operational efficiency and to offer our customers the best-possible solution, we thus decided to create further capacities we have direct control over,” he continued.

Airfreight growth is being driven by China’s exports of medical equipment, electronics, electric motors, electrical and mechanical appliances, says DHL, with South Korea and Germany the main markets.

Notwithstanding Donald Trump’s threat of more trade tariffs, DHL remains bullish on world growth saying its Global Trade Barometer increased to 66 points in March from 64 points in January when it was established.

“The gap between the well-performing world trade with a high demand for cargo space on the one hand, and at the same time a difficult capacity situation on the other side, has encouraged us in our decision to further deploy self-controlled capacity to the market added Scharwath.
