SAN JUAN, PR: May 29, 2018. Crowley Maritime has launched a new feeder shipping service connecting San Juan, Puerto Rico with the Port of Rio Haina in the Dominican Republic and St. Croix and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The weekly rotation departs Rio Haina on a Sunday and arrives in San Juan on Tuesday before departing on Thursday for a Friday arrival in St. Thomas and St. Croix and returning to the Dominican Republic on Sunday.
Crowley says the new feeder provides customers with the advantage of shipping time-sensitive cargo at the end of the week for early arrivals in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
“We are pleased to offer customers yet another innovative service connecting key trading markets throughout the Caribbean Basin,” said Steve Collar, senior vice president and general manager, Crowley International
Services.
“The addition of this service helps us to remain focused on providing customers long-term competitive and reliable supply chain solutions by leveraging our expanded capabilities.”
The service accepts all types of equipment including 20- and 40-foot refrigerated and dry containers as well as 45-foot dry containers and flat racks.
Crowley says it continues to help the 3.5 million American citizens in Puerto Rico recover from Hurricane Maria last year. The 2018 hurricane season begins on June 01.
A study by Harvard University published in the New England Journal of Medicine this week said the official death toll of 64 has been substantially underestimated and that there were 4,645 additional deaths in the three-month period following Hurricane Maria as the average household went approximately 41 days without cell phone service, 68 days without water, and 84 days without electricity.
