Fuel a more sustainable future

HOUSTON, TX: July 16, 2018. Southwest Airlines Cargo has launched its long-anticipated international operation with service to Mexico City followed by Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos later this summer.

SHARK Southwest"We applaud Southwest Airlines' decision to expand cargo operations between Mexico City and Houston Hobby Airport. This move takes advantage of Houston's growing logistics expertise and adds strength to the Houston economy," commented Houston Airport System director Mario Diaz.

During peak periods Southwest operates over 4,000 weekday departures to 99 US destinations and 10 additional countries. The airline is expecting to sell service to Hawaii from several points in California this year and awaits government approval for operating B737 MAX 8 aircraft over the Pacific.

"Our teams have been hard at work getting ready for this historic milestone, and now we're set to take our award-winning Cargo services to places we've never been able to reach before," commented Southwest vice president of Cargo and Charters Matt Buckley on the launch. "We can't wait to begin working with our customers on both sides of the border and play a small role to help businesses grow," he added.

Earlier this year the airline introduced its new back office and shop front product Southwest Cargo Suite as a prelude to this month’s service introduction.

With 45 consecutive years of profitability, the company is known for a triple bottom line approach that contributes to the carrier's performance and productivity, the importance of its people and the communities they serve, and an overall commitment to efficiency and the planet.
