MILAN: October 04, 2018. UPDATE: Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has opened a new cargo terminal at Milan-Malpensa Airport with a handling capacity of over 47,000 tonnes a year.
On the opening day customers joined American’s Regional Cargo Sales manager, Richard Hartmann and his team for a tour of the new building (pictured). “It's a real testament to the strength of our brand in Italy that customers from as far away as Venice, Rome and Florence took time out of their busy schedules to come and see what additional space and opportunities the new warehouse can offer them," said Hartmann.
Malpensa is the company’s first cargo handling facility in Italy. Previously its offices provided documentation and cargo operation services for American Airlines and China Cargo Airlines.
American, with daily service to Milan and New York, is the launch customer for WFS’ new facility that features cargo handling and ground support equipment, a cool area for temperature-controlled cargo and racking for pallets and containers.
The terminal includes 5,000 sq.mt. of warehouse space, a 3,000 sq.mt. ramp area and an additional 800 sq.mt. office complex.
“Opening our new cargo terminal in Milan is a very important milestone for WFS,” said WFS managing director Italy Massimiliano Introini. “This is the first new cargo facility to open in Milan-Malpensa since 2004 and is part of a 10-15 year commitment by WFS to grow our presence at the airport, where total cargo volumes rose 7.5 percent in 2017 to 490,000 tonnes. This investment makes WFS the only international on-airport cargo handling operator in Italy.”
