MIAMI: October 11, 2018. Amazon Prime Air has begun double-daily flights from Miami International Airport to domestic US destinations with B767-300 freighter aircraft operated by Atlas Air Worldwide.

An onsite sort facility at the airport adds to four Amazon warehouses in Miami-Dade County, all within 12 miles of MIA. The largest is an 885,000 sq.ft. fulfillment center at Miami-Opalocka Executive Airport opened this year.

“Amazon Air’s two daily flights will add a significant boost to our domestic cargo traffic, which is already up 17 percent through August,” commented Miami-Dade Aviation director Lester Sola.

Earlier this year officials from the county’s aviation department hosted an e-commerce strategy workshop with the goal of establishing the area as a leading e-commerce hub. The move was prompted by market research firm eMarketer that forecasts sales of US$84.8 billion in Latin America by 2019. MIA handles more freight to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other US airport.
