BARCELONA: October 30, 2018. Logistics operator Synergy, part of the Hutchison Ports group, has introduced a new container rail service linking the Port of Barcelona and Miranda de Ebro, south of Bilbao on Spain's northern coastline.
From its Miranda de Ebro facilities the company is also providing customers storage, container handling as well as rail services covering an area of Spain that includes Alava, Burgos, La Rioja, Santander, Palencia and Asturias.
The company says the new connection offers exporters the possibility of sending their exports from the north of the Spanish Peninsula to the Mediterranean with a transit reduction of 7-20 days depending on the destination. For importers from the Mediterranean region, transit times are up to 14 days or 35 percent faster.
Synergy says the new multimodal service adds to 12 existing routes and enables the Port of Barcelona to be a competitive alternative to both Northern Spain and Southern Europe.
