BEIJING/FRANKFURT: November 21, 2018. China Post has agreed to buy the equivalent capacity of “one B777 freighter a week” on Lufthansa services between Shanghai and Frankfurt.
Both companies say the deal is the “foundation of a strategic cooperation” that is expected to enhance their current relationship that has focused on Beijing and Guangzhou.
Speaking at the signing in Beijing this week, Lufthansa Cargo CEO Peter Gerber said his company’s collaboration with China Post “which has been going on for many years, is now gaining new quality [as it] reflects the growing importance of the cross border eCommerce market”.
In addition to the capacity agreement, the two sides say they are working on shortening transportation times, improving service quality and developing further digitalization.
“In recent years, the cooperation between China Post and Lufthansa Cargo has enjoyed a constant growth,” said China Post Group vice chairman Li Xiong in a statement. “The eCommerce business is in a vigorous development. Under the concept of the ‘Joint Freight Operation’, we will jointly build a more stabilized and comprehensive channel of air mail transportation connecting China and Europe,” he declared.
