HELSINKI: February 11, 2019. Cargo handling supplier Kalmar is to supply six Kalmar Zero Emission Rubber-tired Gantry cranes (RTGs) to South Florida Container Terminal (SFCT) at the Port of Miami.

Kalmar MIADelivery is scheduled for early 2020 and will mean Miami will be the first US container terminal with 100 percent zero-emission RTG cranes.

Kalmar Americas vice president Sales Troy Thompson commented: "We are very pleased to be the first to bring zero emission yard cranes to Miami. We have worked extensively with the team at SFCT and are certain that our partnership will only strengthen further as we move through this major redevelopment project together".

SFCT managing director Mark Baker added: "We are excited about the opportunity to increase our capacity through this terminal redevelopment project. We will not only offer better service to our customers, but we will do it eco-efficiently with all-electric RTGs. Kalmar has proven their ability to handle large terminal redevelopment projects on a global scale with successful RTG deliveries.”

Kalmar is part of Cargotec, a Finnish company that makes cargo handling machinery for ships, ports, terminals and local distribution. Employing 12,000 people worldwide, sales in 2018 totalled €3.3 billion. A Kalmar product handles some 25 percent of all container movements worldwide.
