LE BOURGET, Paris: June 18, 2019. The Volga-Dnepr Group and Leipzig-Halle airport owner Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG (MFAG) have signed an MoU to expand their airfreight and logistics partnership. The result of this increased cooperation in marketing, sales and business development is expected to create up to 500 new jobs.

Leipzig Halle and Volga Dnepr The agreement involving the two companies means a further boost to the €500 million budget scheduled to be spent in the next few years by MFAG on a new cargo hub.

Volga-Dnepr says it will operate 20 B747 freighter flights a week via Leipzig-Halle by 2021 as well as increased charter and project cargo operations with its fleet of An-124-100 aircraft.

“We have been striving to set up and develop effective system of regional hubs throughout the world to secure timely response to our customers’ requirements, specifically, given a recent trend involving greater share and volumes of special loads,” explained Volga-Dnepr Charter Cargo Operations executive president Konstantin Vekshin.

"The long-term commitment by the Volga-Dnepr Group is a huge success story for Leipzig/Halle Airport,” added Matthias Hass, minister of Finances for the Free State of Saxony. “This will create more jobs and the complete Leipzig/Halle region will benefit as a result. This is what I think successful site development with strong partners should look like.”

MFAG CEO Götz Ahmelmann added: “There are capacity bottlenecks in air traffic across Europe. We have the capacity reserves that are urgently required. We’re delighted that the Volga-Dnepr Group, one of our most important partners, is now taking the next step in its development. The signing of the MOU is another milestone in our cooperation arrangement that is based on trust.”
