ADDIS ABABA: July 09, 2019. Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services, part of Ethiopian Airlines, has launched a weekly B777 freighter service to Chongqing, China in a routing that also includes Shanghai, Delhi, Lagos, Sao Paulo, Quito and Miami.

Ethiopian Cargo B777FLocated in Southwestern China adjacent to Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Shaanxi and Sichuan provinces, Chongqing serves as a node of China’s Belt and Road initiative.

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde GebreMariam commented: “We are among the veteran carriers that started serving the People's Republic of China back in the early 1970’s, a long- standing and multi-faceted ties which has translated into a flourishing trade and investment, cultural and bilateral cooperation between Africa and China.

“Our new cargo service augments the development of China-Africa bilateral trade and expands on China’s already growing “Belt and Road” initiative, while supporting our strategic initiatives to expand our global cargo operations.”

In a related announcement, Cargolux has begun a third weekly frequency to Xiamen, China that returns to Luxembourg via Los Angeles.

Cargolux has been operating into Xiamen since 2006 with two weekly flights from Luxembourg.
